04/08/2011 - Canadian Government to Fund Hybrid Green Ship

The University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada will receive CAD$1.19 million government funding to create a plug-in hybrid "green ship". The former Tsekoa II will be retrofitted with powertrain equipment to allow it to be powered by electricity, hydrogen fuel cells and low-emission diesel fuel. The hybrid system will mainly be used for low-speed manoeuvring and to supply power to auxiliary ship systems.
