01/09/2010 - Production of bio-ethanol increases
The EU is producing more and more ethanol. Last year, about 3.7 billion litres were produced, 31% more than the 2.8 billion litres produced in 2008. 2008 itself saw an increase of almost 60% compared to 2007. These figures were calculated by eBio, the professional association of bio-ethanol producers. The largest producer remains France, which, with 1.25 billion litres, generates 34% of European production.
In France, production increased by 25%.
The second-largest producer is Germany, which saw production increase by 32% last year, with 750 million litres. Spain, the third producer, produced 46% more bio-ethanol last year. But in the Netherlands, for the first time no bio-ethanol was produced last year.
